St. Joseph's Friends Sept. 16 event features appetizers, wine, music
Everyone is invited to enjoy hot and cold appetizers, desserts, wine and music from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Hidden Lake Winery in rural Aviston.
Sponsored by the Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, the third annual "What Are Friends For" social will help fund a fifth Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) room and general renovations in the Women and Infants Center, said Karyn Whitlatch, hospital Community Relations director and Friends coordinator.
The fifth LDR room is needed because of the increasing number of families selecting the Breese hospital for obstetrical services. That number will continue to increase with the addition of Bonnie Gelly, MD, a new obstetrician/gynecologist with Southern Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates, to the medical staff.
Tickets for this year's social are $35 in advance or $50 at the door. Those buying tickets early will be included in attendance prize drawings, Whitlatch said.
This is the third year for the afternoon event, she said. Funds from the previous two socials were designated for the St. Joseph's HealthPlex which opened in July.
Chairing the 2007 event is Elaine Behrmann of Albers, former Friends Board chairperson now a board member; Carson Hempen of New Baden is the current Friends Board chairman. Also on the Friends Board is Tom Broeckling of Albers, John Hudspeth of Carlyle, Irene Kruse of Bartelso, Bryan Marsh of Trenton, Ann Schroeder of Germantown, Jerry Timmermann and Jill Timmermann of Breese.
Founded in 1989, the Friends seek contributions to help meet ongoing needs and provide continued support for the hospital. Proceeds from the past three Friends' golf tournaments were designated for the HealthPlex therapy pool; an Emergency Department triage area, surgical suite furnishings and a new heliport have also benefited from Friends donations.
