Making the presentation was hospital interim Chief Executive Officer Lowell Jones (right). Rose has served on the Friends Board since 2002 and was an inaugural member of the Planned Giving Committee. Honors were presented during the hospital's annual recognition dinner in October.
St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese took the opportunity of their annual recognition dinner in October to honor three individuals and recognize members of the medical staff, Board of Directors, Quality Care Committee, Advisory Council, Friends and Auxiliary Boards.
Those honored included Jacolyn Schlautman who stepped down after 15 years as chief executive officer, Dale Henry, most recently Advisory Council chairman, and Friends Board member Leonard Rose.
Lowell Jones, the hospital's interim chief executive officer, thanked all three for their service.
Schlautman, of Germantown, the hospital CEO from 1992 until her retirement in August, 2007, was instrumental in expanding the hospital and adding many new services, Jones said.
"However, she said she was most proud of the wonderful people she worked with: the physicians, administrative and management staff and all the employees who were so supportive and committed to the patients," he said.
During her 15 years of service, the hospital renovated the Women and Infants Center, added a new Emergency Department, organized an Outpatient Center, added new physician areas, renovated and expanded surgery and added a new HealthPlex, among other work.
"Jackie said all the projects had one goal-to continue to provide the best healthcare possible to area residents," Jones said.
Henry, of Carlyle, has actively supported the hospital for many years, Jones said.
Most recently, Henry served as Advisory Council Chairman after being named a council member in 1998. In 1989, he was asked to be a charter member of the newly-formed Friends Board and served as its first golf tournament chairman.
Before that, Henry served on the hospital Board of Directors prior to and when sponsorship was transferred from the Holy Cross to the Hospital Sisters.
"We are proud to honor one of St. Joseph's long-time supporters," Jones said, in presenting the award.
Rose, now living in Salem, was honored for his service on the Friends Board.
A Friends Board member since 2002, Rose was an inaugural member of the Planned Giving Committee and also supports the other activities of the Friends and the hospital, Jones said.
"We thank Leonard for his service," Jones said, in presenting Rose his award.
Also recognized at the dinner was the newest member of the medical staff-obstetrician/gynecologist Bonnie Gelly, MD-who joined Southern Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates this summer.
Following the recognition ceremony, Sister Marybeth Culnan, hospital president and board of directors chairperson, thanked everyone for their service and support of the mission and goals of the hospital and the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.
System President and CEO Stephanie McCutcheon conveyed her thanks and appreciation.
"The System and I appreciate all the hard work you do in supporting the healing ministry of the Hospital Sisters and the Gospel values of compassion, justice and reverence for life that define the Hospital Sisters Health System and St. Joseph's in Breese," she said.
In his closing remarks, Jones added his thanks.
"You are the reason for the success of our facility," he said. "We appreciate the time you give to help guide the hospital as it works to fulfill its mission: 'To minister to those in need as exemplified by the Gospel of Christ.'"
