Pulmonologist Syed Rizvi, MD, joins staff, to see patients Tuesdays at St. Joseph-Breese

A pulmonologist who is board-certified in internal, pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine has been appointed to the consulting staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

Syed Rizvi, MD, is now seeing patients Tuesday afternoons in Suite 6 of the hospital Specialty Clinics Building. He is with Southern Illinois Pulmonary Consultants, Ltd., in Belleville.

Board-certified pulmonologists Ventrapragada Mohan, MD, and Barbara Sudholt, MD, are also with the practice and see patients at St. Joseph's in Breese: Dr. Mohan on Fridays and Dr. Sudholt on Wednesdays.

Before joining the Belleville group, Dr. Rizvi was a physician at Murray County Hospital and Clinic in Slayton, Minn., where he was director of the pulmonary function testing lab, pulmonary rehabilitation and intensive care and provided pulmonary and sleep medicine services to southwestern Minnesota.

He previously completed a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at North Shore University Hospital near New York City in Manhasset, NY, and an internship and residency, including one year as a chief resident, in internal medicine at the NSUH facility at Forest Hills, NY.

Dr. Rizvi received his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degrees from Dow Medical College, then served as the house officer in general surgery at the Civil Hospital and as the house officer in internal medicine at the Agha Khan University Hospital, all in Karachi, Pakistan.

During that time, he received the Director's Excellence in Medicine Award, Honors in Medicine, Certificates of Merit and scholarships.

Dr. Rizvi has been published by "Internal Medicine Alert," the "Journal of North Shore University Hospital" and "Chest" and been a presenter at international conferences of the American Thoracic Society and international scientific assemblies of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of both.
