Friends Board accepts $10,000 gift from Poettker Construction

Poettker Construction, represented by (from left) Kevin Poettker, director of sales and business development, and Charles Poettker, president and CEO, took the opportunity of New Year's Eve afternoon to present a $10,000 donation to the Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, represented by Friends Board Chair Irene Kruse and hospital President and CEO Lowell Jones. Kruse and Jones both thanked Poettker for their generous contribution, noting the funds would be used for one of several on-going projects including a new MRI and digital mammography.

The Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese received an end-of-the-year bonus, thanks to the generosity of Charles Poettker, president and CEO of Poettker Construction of Breese.

Poettker celebrated the end of 2008 by making a $10,000 donation to the Friends organization.

As a former Friends Board member, Poettker said he was pleased to support the work of St. Joseph's Hospital and the Friends.

"I have seen the wonderful care the staff at this hospital provides," Poettker said. "This is our company's way of giving back to the community."

Irene Kruse, Friends Board chairwoman, accepted the gift.

"The Friends organization is very thankful for this wonderful donation," Kruse said. "This gift will make a sizeable impact on any one of several hospital projects that are in progress or in the planning stages."

Lowell Jones, hospital President and CEO, added his thanks.

"St. Joseph's in Breese very much appreciates this generous contribution," Jones said. "The hospital has several upcoming projects for which his donation will be very helpful."

The hospital took delivery of a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit in December-with scanning to begin later in January-and is in the process of converting to digital mammography, Jones said.

"Both of these projects require major funding," Jones said. "This gift will certainly be helpful toward paying a part of these expenditures."

The hospital is also renovating the 1South nurses station and plans to remodel sections of the Women and Infants Center, Jones said.

"Both of these projects, while smaller, still require substantial funding," Jones said. "We appreciate his stepping forward with this generous gift."

Founded in 1989, the Friends of St. Joseph's seeks contributions to help meet ongoing needs and provides continued support for the hospital. Examples include the HealthPlex aquatic therapy pool, the Emergency Department triage area, furnishings for one of the hospital's three surgical suites and a heliport.

In addition to Kruse, of Bartelso, other Friends Board members include Craig Revermann, DC, and Tom Broeckling of Albers; Timothy Schleper, Jerry Timmermann and Jill Timmermann of Breese; Ann Schroeder of Germantown; Stanley Brandmeyer and B. Carson Hempen of New Baden; and Bryan Marsh of Trenton.
