Sister Dorothy Niemann named to leadership council

Sister Dorothy Niemann, Pastoral Care Director at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, with Sisters Celine Goessl and Mary Anne Rose of Merrill, Wis., and Sister Pam Hodgson of Metairie, La., were recently elected to the leadership team of the Holy Cross Sisters' USA Province based in Merrill

St. Joseph's in Breese was sponsored by the Holy Cross Sisters from 1921 to 1986.

Sister Celine will continue as provincial, Sister Mary Ann is the assistant and Sisters Dorothy and Pam are councilors. All will serve three-year terms beginning June 14.

Originally from Breese, Sister Dorothy has served as the hospital's Pastoral Care Director since 2001.         Before returning to Clinton County, she was a full-time faculty member at Dickinson State University and in the Parish Nurse Ministry at St. Wenceslaus Parish, both in Dickinson, ND. Previously, she worked in nursing, hospice, Quality Assurance and Risk Management at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson and in nursing at Good Samaritan, formerly Holy Cross, Hospital in Merrill, Wis.

A certified chaplain since 2004, Sister Dorothy holds two nursing degrees: a bachelor's from Alverno College in Milwaukee and a master's from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She completed the Parish Nurse Institute-Phase I at Marquette University in Milwaukee and a Clinical Pastoral Education residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Sister Celine was first elected provincial in June, 2006. Sister Mary Ann is Director of Resident Services at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, Wis., and Sister Pam is an elementary teacher at St. Benedict the Moor School in Metairie, La.

The new leadership team will seek opportunities for building community and ministries and welcome new sisters and new associates.
