October health screenings planned

St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese will host health fair screenings from 6 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Breese Knights of Columbus; Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Mary's Parish Center in Trenton; Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Carlyle Knights of Columbus; and Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Germantown American Legion.

Highlighting each will be a Comprehensive Blood Screening ($40, 10- to 12-hour fast recommended) and a men's Prostate Specific Antigen screening ($15, no fasting required). A Hemoglobin A1c may be added to the CBS panel for an additional $10; this test indicates if treatments for high blood sugar are working.

Other tests will also be offered including colorectal screening kits in packets of three for $5 per packet; heel bone density screenings to identify osteoporosis risks for $5; pulmonary function to measure lung capacity and blood oxygen levels for $5; body composition which calculates the percentage of body fat for $5; and blood pressure checks and diabetes finger sticks at no charge.
