Friends golf tourney to be June 20 at Governors Run-Carlyle

The Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese are hoping everyone will have a grand slam of a good time at the 19 th annual Friends golf tournament.

With the theme of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” the tournament is set for Friday, June 20, at Governor's Run Golf Course in Carlyle. Among the highlights will be the continuation of the popular golf cart poker run and plenty of peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

The tournament will continue using a scramble format and six-person teams and offer 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. tee-off times plus a 6:30 p.m. awards dinner. Prices and details will be announced as finalized.

Proceeds from the golf scramble will benefit a new labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) room for the Women and Infants Center at St. Joseph's in Breese as well as general department renovations.

The new LDR room is needed to accommodate the growing number of families selecting St. Joseph's in Breese for obstetrical services. That number continues to increase since Bonnie Gelly, MD, a new obstetrician/gynecologist with Southern Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates, joined the medical staff last summer.

Jill Timmermann of Breese will continue as the Friends golf tournament chairperson; B. Carson Hempen of New Baden is Friends Board chairman. Other Friends Board members include Elaine Behrmann and Tom Broeckling of Albers, Irene Kruse of Bartelso, Jerry Timmermann of Breese, John Hudspeth of Carlyle, Ann Schroeder of Germantown and Bryan Marsh of Trenton.
