Friends to host financial seminar Jan. 28

Vaughn W. Henry, a financial specialist with an agriculture background, will present a free financial planning seminar Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Heritage Room at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Sponsored by the Friends of St. Joseph’s, the seminar will open with a light meal at 6 p.m. and conclude about 8 p.m. Time for questions is planned.

Henry will discuss financial planning in general, tax changes and new opportunities in 2010, business succession and exit planning and tax efficient philanthropy.

Although the session is open to all, the information may be of special interest to individuals and families with agriculture or farm connections.

Henry has a background in both agriculture—which helps him understand and appreciate the special financial issues faced by farm families—and financial planning.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture science and a master’s degree in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and holds a Professional Animal Scientist designation from the American Society of Animal Sciences.

In the financial services and estate planning area—his career focus since the early 1990s—he has completed coursework at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and at the University of Illinois, among others. Currently, he is working toward a Ph.D. in management.

Henry is qualified as a charitable trust specialist by the National Association of Philanthropic Planners and in advanced planned giving by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Council In Aid and Support of Education.

There is no charge but to ensure sufficient seating, food and materials, registration is required by Monday, Jan. 25. For more information or to register, contact Development Director Karyn Whitlatch at 526-5439 or e-mail Karyn Whitlatch.
