Nephrologist Ruo-Qi Hu, MD, joins St. Joseph-Breese medical staff

Nephrologist Ruo-Qi Hu, MD, PhD, has joined the courtesy staff and will see patients in the Specialty Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

“The hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Hu,” said Jene Bieri, Professional Services director. “She will be an asset to our staff.”

A nephrologist specializes in the kidneys. As such, Dr. Hu will treat patients with acute renal failure and chronic kidney diseases, hypertension of chronic kidney diseases, renal bone diseases, end stage renal diseases requiring dialysis, post-kidney transplantation, anemia of chronic kidney diseases, electrolyte and acid-base abnormalities and kidney stones.

Dr. Hu is board certified in Nephrology and Hypertension as well as Internal Medicine. She is affiliated with Southern Illinois Physician Services in Belleville as a nephrologist.

A graduate of Kunming Medical College—now Kunming Medical University—in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, Dr. Hu received a doctorate degree in neuropharmacology from the University of Wales College of Medicine, United Kingdom, and completed internships in Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

She additionally completed fellowships in neuroscience at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Mass., and The Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto, Canada; and in nephrology at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

Dr. Hu is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Nephrology and American Society of Internal Medicine and has presented research work at various conferences including at the annual meetings of the Society for Neuroscience and American Epilepsy Society.
