St. Joseph-Breese recognized by HealthGrades
St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese was recently selected as one of 14 Illinois hospitals to be honored for the 2010/11 year by the independent healthcare ratings company HealthGrades.
“We’re pleased to receive this recognition—it represents the efforts of our colleagues, physicians, volunteers and leadership,” said Mark Klosterman, St. Joseph-Breese president and chief executive officer.
“We take pride in our staff and work very hard at maintaining a facility of the highest quality,” he said. “This honor from HealthGrades is a wonderful validation of our efforts.”
This is the second consecutive year St. Joseph-Breese has received the HealthGrades’ recognition given to hospitals ranking in the top 10 percent among the 3,775 healthcare facilities participating in the annual Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
The survey was sent to recently discharged patients between July, 2008, and June 2009, and included 27 questions related to physician and nurse communication, staff responsiveness, cleanliness and noise levels, medication information and post-discharge care instructions.
It is a national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care which HealthGrades analyzes to determine award recipients.
St. Joseph-Breese, which was similarly honored for the 2009 and 2009/10 award years, is one of only a few St. Louis area hospitals to be recognized this year. Others include St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo., and Progress West Healthcare Center in O’Fallon, Mo.
Also during 2010, the hospital received 5-Star Customer Service Awards for Emergency Services, inpatient care and the Women and Infants Center from Professional Research Consultants (PRC), the hospital’s former patient survey team. Five-Star designations are given to healthcare facilities that score in the top 10 percent—above the 90 th percentile—of PRC’s national client database for the prior calendar year.
This is the eighth consecutive year for Emergency Services and second straight year for inpatient care and WIC to receive 5-Star honors.
