St. Joseph-Breese HealthPlex to showcase cardiac care, Cardiac Rehab, student art Feb. 25
More than 65 pieces of high school art, a presentation on cardiac care advancements and tours of Cardiopulmonary Rehab will highlight “The Art of Heart Care” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the HealthPlex at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
Students from Carlyle, Central, Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Mater Dei Catholic and Wesclin high schools were invited to display original art work depicting the “Art of Heart Care.” Among the pieces submitted by Feb. 22 were paintings on canvas, free-hand art work, poems and other written material, sculpture is various mediums, ceramics, photography and a button heart.
Those attending the Feb. 25 event will have the opportunity to vote for his or her favorite; votes are a nickel each with proceeds to the American Heart Association. The piece with the most votes will earn the artist a three-month HealthPlex gift certificate or $50 in cash.
Pieces will remain on display at the HealthPlex through Monday, April 5; selected items will also be at the four area health fairs March 11 at Breese Knights of Columbus, March 17 at Germantown Legion, March 23 at Carlyle Knights of Columbus and March 30 at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Trenton.
In addition to the art show, Bonnie Schneider and Sue Beeler of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville will discuss cardiac care advancements and Cardiopulmonary Rehab will be open for tours.
The Feb. 25 event is the last in a series of activities offered during February for “Go Red for Heart Health.” Events were sponsored by the Hospital Sisters Health System’s Southern Division hospitals—St. Joseph’s in Breese and Highland and St. Elizabeth’s in Belleville.
The final event of Heart Health Awareness Month is an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) class at 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in the Heritage Room at St. Joseph’s in Breese. For information or to register (required), contact 526-5353 or e-mail the Education Coordinator.
