Friends present $25,000 check for WIC renovations

Twenty-five thousand dollars will pay for a lot of nails and drywall.

That’s what the Friends of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese thought when they presented the $25,126.15  proceeds from the group’s annual golf tournament to the hospital’s Women and Infants Center.

“The Friends are pleased to support the hospital to this extent,” Golf Tournament Chairperson Jill Timmermann said.

“We always receive wonderful support for this event and those proceeds are in turn used to enhance the healthcare services the hospital provides,” she said.

The $25,126 from the ’09 tournament, held June 19 at Governors Run in Carlyle, along with the $27,315 from the 2008 event, will be used for renovations to the Women and Infants Center.

“Families choosing St. Joseph’s in Breese for obstetrical and gynecological services should be pleased with the results,” said Lowell Jones, hospital president and Chief Executive Officer.

“We are proud of the state-of-the-art care that we provide, care that resulted in our Women and Infants Center receiving a Five-Star Award from our patient survey group Professional Research Consultants,” Jones said. “These renovations will only enhance what we’re already offering.”

Previously, the Friends underwrote a digital mammography system at a cost of $500,000. The combined $75,000 proceeds from the 2005, 2006 and 2007 tourneys paid for the HealthPlex aquatic therapy pool.

The Friends Board includes Chairman Tom Broeckling and Craig Revermann, DC, of Albers; Jan Deiters, Michele Maue, Tim Schleper and Jean Vogt of Breese; Tom Frerker and Nancy Zieren of Carlyle; Ann Schroeder of Germantown; Stan Brandmeyer of New Baden; and Bryan Marsh of Trenton.

In addition, Golf Committee members include Timmermann of Breese, Irene Kruse of Bartelso and Carson Hempen of New Baden.
