Art Therapist/Counselor Christina Kittstein, LCPC, seeing patients

Christina Kittstein, a registered and board certified art therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor, is now seeing patients in Suite 105 in the Physician Office Building at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Affiliated with Creative Solutions Counseling, Kittstein is providing services while Lucy Schrage, LCPC, who founded the practice in 2005, is on maternity leave and will continue seeing patients one day a week when Schrage returns later this winter.

Although Kittstein has received education in a variety of theoretical backgrounds, she focuses on a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral orientation of counseling. She holds degrees in fine arts and art therapy counseling from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Kittstein’s specialty is children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional issues and their families. She uses art therapy to help decrease symptoms and improve happiness and wellness.

At St. Joseph’s in Breese, Kittstein will provide counseling to children, adolescents and adults coping with abuse or neglect, adjustment issues, anger management, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder/oppositional defiant disorder, behavior problems, communication problems, depression, divorce, parent/child relationships and/or school issues.

Kittstein has worked in a variety of settings including a center for abuse survivors, a shelter for battered women, a community mental health organization, a residential facility for aging adults, Head Start programs, the mental health department of a non-profit hospital and public schools.

Clients have included preschoolers through adolescents, adults and seniors exhibiting a variety of symptoms and dealing with a range of mental health and abuse issues.

In addition to her private practice, which also includes office hours in Maryville, Kittstein has been a frequent guest speaker for art therapists, educators, parents and others. Among her speaking engagements was the American Art Therapy Association’s national conference.
