St. Joseph’s in Breese hosts a series of community health screenings each year during March and October. Generally one fair is offered each week of the month in a different community. Thank you to the Breese KC Hall, Carlyle KC Hall, Germantown Legion Hall and St. Mary’s Parish Center in Trenton for providing the venues. The HealthPlex in Breese also hosts a fair but with limited screenings. All fairs are from 6 to 10 in the morning. Blood screenings requiring a ten-hour fast are offered for a fee at all five locations. These include a CBS (comprehensive blood screening including cholesterol), PSA (prostate specific antigen screening for men), hemoglobin A1C, and a vitamin D screening. Free blood pressure checks and diabetes finger sticks are also available at all fairs. All but the HealthPlex offer a heel bone density osteoporosis screening, a pulmonary function and pulse ox lung function screening, and a body composition test. Colorectal cancer home-screening kits are available for purchase.
Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Registration forms are published in local newspapers in mid-February and in mid-September, and are due at the hospital one-week before the fair you plan to attend to potentially reduce your wait. Forms are also available at the hospital and HealthPlex front desks, local public libraries, and at several area businesses a few weeks before the first fair of the series.
